Marketplace Seller Onboarding Email Sequence
A seller onboarding sequence should move a new supplier toward a useful first outcome, such as completing a profile and publishing a first listing. The sequence below is a planning template: adapt the timing and trigger to the events and consent rules available in your marketplace.
Before the first email: define seller activation
Choose one milestone that shows a seller is ready to serve buyers. It may be a complete profile, an approved listing, or a first response to an inquiry. Make sure the event is recorded reliably and that seller accounts can be distinguished from buyer accounts.
- Confirm which signup field or event identifies a seller.
- Choose one activation milestone and an owner for the measure.
- Suppress people who already completed setup before the sequence starts.
Email 1: welcome and the next action
Send a concise welcome after seller signup when the account is eligible for the message. Explain what the marketplace helps the seller do, link to the next setup task, and provide a support path. Avoid presenting a long feature tour before the seller has taken the first step.
Email 2: remove setup friction
If the seller has not reached the activation milestone, send practical help after a reasonable interval. Include a short checklist for profile details, listing quality, availability, or fulfillment expectations. Do not send this reminder to sellers who already completed setup.
Email 3: help the seller respond
Once a listing is live, guide the seller through the next operational behavior: how to review an inquiry, keep listing information current, or prepare to fulfill an order. Use the actual marketplace interface and support documentation in the message.
Test exits, consent, and timing
Use test seller accounts to verify each event, branch, and message. Confirm that completed sellers exit onboarding, that recipients meet the applicable email permission requirements, and that a delayed or duplicate event does not start the journey twice.
- Test new, incomplete, and already-active seller states.
- Set a frequency cap across onboarding and campaign messages.
- Review delivery and activation results before increasing volume.
